As part of our trip to Melbourne Zoo, we arranged a “close encounter” with the Sumatran tigers. This involved us in helping to set up the enrichment activities (placing meat and scent in various parts of the enclosure) for the male tiger before he was let in.
This first photo is taken from within the enclosure looking out at the crowd gathered for the “Tiger Talk”.
Here he is checking out the scent trail left by us as we walked through.
Then he spotted us! (We were safely behind a metal gate.)
But we weren’t his lunch, there was some to the left of us.
And some a little further away, but in direct line-of-sight.
Not sure I like the way he’s looking at us. Thankfully we’re in an airlock so there is a fence between him and us.
An awesome experience and best of all, our entry ticket for this behind-the-scenes encounter goes directly towards the conservation efforts for tigers!!
